About IPL Photo Facial
““Target visible sun damage, uneven tone and redness with personalised light-based care.””
IPL Photo Facial at KAC
IPL Photo Facial is a non-invasive light-based treatment that uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to target selected visible pigmentation and redness within the skin.
Unlike a traditional laser that uses a single wavelength, IPL delivers a controlled range of light wavelengths. Appropriate filters and treatment settings are selected according to the skin concern being addressed.
At Karthika’s Aesthetic Centre, IPL is recommended only after assessing your skin type, pigmentation pattern, sensitivity, sun exposure and treatment history.
IPL may be suitable for concerns such as sun-induced pigmentation, superficial dark spots, uneven-looking tone, selected redness and visible signs of photo-damage.
It may also be incorporated into a broader skin rejuvenation program when appropriate.
However, IPL is not suitable for every pigmentation condition. Melasma and deeper pigmentation require careful assessment because heat and inappropriate light treatment can aggravate some cases.
Our approach therefore begins with diagnosis and skin assessment—not simply choosing IPL because pigmentation is visible.

Treatment Procedures and Details
Is IPL Right for Your Skin?
Before treatment, we assess whether IPL is appropriate for your concern and skin type.
We evaluate:
• Pigmentation type
IPL is generally better suited to selected superficial pigment rather than every form of pigmentation.
• Skin tone
Treatment parameters must be carefully chosen for Indian skin to minimise unnecessary heat and post-inflammatory pigmentation risk.
• Redness & vascular concerns
Certain visible redness may respond to appropriately selected IPL settings.
• Sun exposure
Recent tanning or significant sun exposure can affect treatment safety and timing.
• Skin sensitivity & barrier health
Inflamed, irritated or compromised skin may need to be stabilised before treatment.
• Previous treatments
Recent peels, lasers, active skincare products and medications are reviewed before proceeding.
A test spot may be recommended when appropriate.
Skin Assessment First
We assess your skin type, pigmentation pattern and treatment suitability before recommending IPL.
Customised Light Parameters
IPL settings are selected according to your concern, skin tone and tolerance rather than using one standard protocol.
Multi-Concern Rejuvenation
Appropriate IPL protocols may address superficial pigmentation, sun damage, redness and uneven-looking tone.
Indian Skin Focused
Conservative parameter selection and appropriate preparation help reduce unnecessary irritation and pigmentation risk.
What Happens During an IPL Photo Facial?
Before treatment, the skin is cleansed and appropriate protective eyewear is provided.
A cooling medium may be applied depending on the IPL system used. The handpiece is then positioned over the treatment area, delivering controlled pulses of light.
The light energy is absorbed selectively by targeted pigment or vascular structures while surrounding tissue is protected as much as possible through careful parameter selection.
During treatment, clients may notice a brief warm or snapping sensation.
Afterwards, the skin may temporarily appear mildly warm or pink. Some targeted superficial pigmentation can initially appear darker before gradually shedding or fading.
Depending on your skin concern, IPL may be combined with complementary KAC protocols such as professional peels, antioxidant treatments, hydration therapy, MediFacials or skin-repair procedures at appropriately planned intervals.
A series of sessions may be recommended, with the treatment plan modified according to your skin response.
Sun protection is particularly important before and after IPL.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is IPL the same as laser treatment? No. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light with selected filters, while a laser generally emits a specific wavelength. What conditions can IPL Photo Facial help? IPL may help selected superficial pigmentation, sun damage, uneven-looking tone and certain forms of facial redness. Suitability depends on individual skin assessment. Can IPL treat melasma? IPL is not automatically recommended for melasma. Because heat and light can aggravate some forms of melasma, the pigmentation type must be assessed before considering IPL. Is IPL suitable for Indian skin? IPL can be used in appropriately selected Indian skin types, but treatment parameters require careful adjustment. Not every skin tone or condition is an ideal candidate. How many sessions will I need? This depends on the concern, pigmentation depth and individual response. A series of treatments may be recommended. Does IPL hurt? Most clients describe a brief warm or snapping sensation. Comfort varies depending on the treatment area and settings used. Is there downtime? Downtime is generally limited, although temporary warmth, redness or darkening of targeted pigmentation can occur. Can I go in the sun after IPL? Sun avoidance and high-protection sunscreen are important before and after treatment to reduce the risk of irritation and pigmentation changes.
